Nine Batch 28 Fashion Design students from BINUS University participated in the Draping Competition at Asian Student Fashion Week (ASFW) 2026, held on 9–10 May 2026 at Universitas Negeri Malang. Through this competition, the students had the opportunity to demonstrate their technical skills, creativity, and innovative approach to sustainable fashion alongside participants from various institutions across Asia.

Organized by the Applied Fashion Design Program at Universitas Negeri Malang, ASFW 2026 serves as an international platform that connects fashion education, creativity, and industry. Under the overarching theme “Evolve: Threads of

 

Tomorrow,” the event encourages young designers to explore the future of fashion through innovation, responsibility, and sustainability while fostering collaboration between academia and the fashion industry.

The Draping Competition carried the theme “Rebirth Zero-Waste,” challenging participants to create garments that embraced sustainability through zero-waste design principles and innovative fabric manipulation techniques. Contestants were required to bring a maximum of three types of fabric and transform them into original draped garments without generating textile waste, highlighting both creativity and technical expertise.

 

By taking part in the competition, the nine BINUS students gained valuable experience working under competitive conditions while applying sustainable design principles in real time. The challenge allowed them to strengthen their draping skills, experiment with creative construction methods, and explore new approaches to zero-waste fashion design.
